Daniel McGehee, the director of the University of Iowa’s Transportation and Vehicle Safety Research program, stated that there were many reasons why people are unfamiliar with driver assists features. “Statistics have shown that more than 90 percent of crashes involve some kind of driver error,” said Newton of the Auto Alliance. “So automakers continue pioneering and enhancing lots of driver assist systems that can help the driver avoid situations that lead to a crash.”
